Boating, camping and fishing.
one of the largest boating and water-sport destinations, Lake Texoma, is a 93,000-acre reservoir on the northern border of the state, at Denison, TX. There are over a dozen RV parks and campgrounds to set up a home base while enjoying this outdoor wonderland. Camping, boating, jet skiing and fishing are the primary activities here, but hiking, sightseeing, picnicking and other outdoor activities are all available. Boat launch ramps galore assist in launching all types and sizes of pleasure and fishing boats. All up and down the lake are locations accessible for fishing from the bank as well as launching kayaks and canoes. There is so much water to fish, including 1,250 miles of shoreline, and a wide variety of fish species to pursue. Notorious for big striped bass and lots of them, this impoundment also contains three kinds of bass, three kinds of catfish, two types of crappie, half a dozen kinds of sunfish and three kinds of gar. There is every amenity one could wish for on, and around, this awesome fishery. Flowing water, or current, is a major factor when fishing. When water is flowing it tends to turn on the bite as fish can ambush bait as it flows by in the current. There is limited aquatic vegetation for cover, but timber, brush, rocks, boulders, ledges, points, creek channels and boat docks/houses all provide holding spots for various species of fish. Stripers and white bass follow schools of baitfish - find the bait and the fish will be close by. Look for crappie around standing timber, boat dock pilings and brush - best times are fall and winter. Catfish relate to creek and river channels and are catchable year round. Bass move in-and-out, and up-and-down following the baitfish as well. Locate the depth of the bait and find cover at that depth.
